Hatfield Ladies will be playing on Sunday 15th August at 12.00pm against Herts Bowls Club in the Area Final of the Top Club competition. The fixture is on a neutral green and Welwyn Garden City have been kind enough to offer their green for this match. Huge thanks to all at WGC!
Come along and support our team on the day – we are only 3 wins away from playing in the All England Quarter Finals at Leamington!
Dee kindly took some photos on Sunday when the bowlers played the social members. The event started with a spider to win a bottle of Whiskey, which was won by one of our regular social members, Mark. There was a good turnout so plays was on 5 rinks, and lots of laughter and fun could be seen and heard. Some of the social members should really take this game up as they showed good technique and potential skill. After the match everyone enjoyed a lovely BBQ organised by the social members so we were grateful for the good weather to sit outside and enjoy it. Unfortunately the day ended with the disappointing result in the Euro football final but the positive for the club was that the bar takings were good!
Hatfield hosted the quarter finals for the Ladies unbadged competition yesterday evening and our own Sue Swain won through to the semi final at Welwyn & District on Monday 19th July – 6pm – well done Sue! Thank you to all the supporters who turned out to cheer on their players!
Potten End Bowls Club hosted Hatfield Ladies yesterday in the National Top Club competition. Hatfield Ladies won on three rinks which gave a 3 points to 1 win, meaning they are through to the next round against Berkhamsted on 17th July at home!
The second leg of the Ron Gray Trophy match was played at Harperbury Bowls Club on 27th June. Unfortunately for Hatfield we had to surrender the trophy after winning it for the past four summer playing seasons. Ron watched the match and gave a very nice speech before awarding Debbie Trollope the Trophy. Congratulations to Harperbury for winning both the home and away matches!
Alison won her match against Hayley Robinson from Royston and will now play in the County Final against Betty Ottaway-Stewart on 1st August at Bishops Stortford. Both finalists get the chance to play in the Singles competition at the National Championships at Leamington which starts on Wednesday 25th August, supporters will be very welcome and if you have never been, it is a great day out!
On Friday 4th June our Men played in the 2nd round of this knock-out match against Abbots Langley. After continual rain all day the evening turned out to be dry but quite heavy going on the green. The determination showed by our Hatfield team gave them a win and they will now go into the next round which will be played on 2nd July at Whitethorn.
This was the first leg of the annual match against Harperbury Bowls Club on a very warm and sunny afternoon at Hatfield played in a friendly and enjoyable spirit. It was started many years ago by Ron as a friendly fixture between both clubs and it was great to see Ron watching the game and looking very well! The second leg will be played at Harperbury on Sunday 27th June when we hope to retain the trophy!
